Último número:

Hostile: Philosopher Chris Bertram and former picture editor Alexia Singh discuss how immigration is represented and whether this matches reality. Simon Brown talks about his experience as an interiors photographer.

PORTFOLIOS: Conor Horgan has photographed the tent encampments of International Protection Applicants in Dublin and the barriers that have been erected to fence them in or keep them out. Colin Graham introduces the work noting the ‘forced absence of humanity which haunts the work’. Jaywick in Essex, is the focus of David J Shaw’s work. The village sits within the constituency of Nigel Farage and has been described negatively in the media. Shaw has connected with Jaywick’s community and produced a more nuanced representation of it beyond the hostile headlines. Ruby Wallis has developed a collaborative project with International Protection Applicants living in Lismore. Exploring the castle’s walled gardens at night, participants have gone looking for plants they recognised from home. They recall the plants' healing, culinary, and sometimes ritual uses, and the memories they carry, which appear in the captions for the images.

REVIEWS: Exhibitions of the work of Alfred Buckham, daredevil photographer, Lee Miller, Joy Gregory and Yuki Kihara. Book reviews: Hilary Roberts' 'The Camera at War', Martin Parr's Autobiography, The Lettrists and Photography, Hito Steyerl's essays, Tessa Boffin and more
