In May 1929, the two legendary titles (Eve published from 1926, and Britannia published from 1928) were brought together to form 'Britannia and Eve'. Though billed as 'a monthly journal for men and women', the style and content was largely aimed at and focussed on a female readership. 

Launched in 1903 as a protégé of The Graphic, The Bystander was a weekly satirical magazine designed to look at the ‘lighter side of life’. 

First created as a direct rival to The Illustrated London News, under the guidance of social reformer William Luson Thomas, The Graphic captured authentic scenes across London, the UK and around the world. The sophisticated editorial and notable images within this title combine to make it an impressive, in-depth source for global history.

As the world’s first fully illustrated weekly newspaper launched in 1842 by Bruce Ingram, the groundbreaking Illustrated London News presented a vivid chronicle of lives and times, marking a revolution in journalism.

Founded in 1874, The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News was a weekly newspaper reporting on sporting events, theatrical news, fictional stories, and a regular chess column, latterly becoming a more farming orientated publication. The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News catered for an increasing enthusiasm for sporting and leisure pursuits by the upper and middle classes and primarily focussed on equestrian sports and hunting alongside cricket, tennis, rugby and rowing. 

At the outbreak of what became known as the Great War in August 1914, The Illustrated London News began to publish a supplement to its weekly news magazine, The Illustrated War News. This pictorial history of the First World War spanned 197 weekly editions and ran all the way through to April 1918 when it was abruptly curtailed due to a shortage of paper as a result of German attacks on Allied shipping.

London Life swooped onto the scene in 60s London at a time of great cultural and social change, capturing the essence of the time with impact and style from October 1965 to December 1966. Though short lived, the magazine had great visual and editorial impact, with articles and items on key figures and issues of the day, from music to politics, current affairs, art, work, health and sport.

The Sketch was created and published by the Illustrated London News under the editorship of firstly Clement Shorter and William Ingram and then latterly by his son Bruce Ingram. The Sketch ran for nearly 70 years and embraced British high society with a focus on fashion, the arts, theatre and everything royal, through sumptuous photography and illustration.

Founded by Clement Shorter, a former editor of The Illustrated London News, the magazine was published weekly between January 1900 and June 1964. Designed as a direct rival to both the ILN and The Graphic at the height of the Boer war, The Sphere sated the public thirst for highly decorative images and illustrations bringing the theatre of current events to the very hearths of ordinary individuals.

The Tatler was founded on 3rd July 1901, by Clement Shorter, editor of The Sphere, and was advertised as the “lightest, brightest and most interesting Society and Dramatic paper ever published”.
