British Journal of Photography, the world’s longest-running photography title, has been showcasing pioneers of the art form since 1854. Through the lenses of world-class photographers, British Journal of Photography explores rich and timely stories of art, culture, politics and society.
British Journal of Photography is published quarterly, with each issue made manifest across 196 pages of three different paper types. Each issue is standardised across a collection of representative editorial sections: Agenda, Projects, In the Studio, that issue’s thematic exploration, Features and Intelligence. It includes a range of long-form, exclusive interviews with esteemed photographers, curators and industry experts, opinion-led pieces and portfolios, as well as short reviews and accessible quick reads.

In Agenda, we report from exhibitions and festivals shaping current debates: Yumna Al-Arashi’s first solo show at Huis Marseille considers the body as a site of resistance; Salvatore Vitale collaborates with freelance workers in South Africa to examine the hidden labour behind the gig economy; and A Kind of Paradise at Museum Rietberg brings together 20 artists working with colonial-era imagery.
Projects feature long-term, collaborative practices. Byron Hamzah reflects on working with children from the Bajau Laut enclave. Whereas, Sam Hutchinson photographs post-industrial towns with quiet attention to atmosphere and transition.
In Features, artists working with both analogue and advanced technologies ask how the world is pictured and what is systematically excluded. The issue also includes Rehaf Al Batniji’s reflection on her studio in Gaza, once a place of daily practice, now destroyed.
