Archivio Completo

481 issues

Embroidery magazine is exclusively devoted to all aspects of embroidery and stitched textiles in art, design, craft and textile culture.

The magazine has built a reputation for quality and integrity over the years. Our goal is to bring you the latest, most exciting and innovative stitched work – we interview the artists, educators, curators and designers who matter, showcasing their talent as well as reporting on trends.

In each issue you will find in-depth profiles, artists’ essays, and reviews of the latest textile books and exhibitions, as well as news and listings of fashion and textile exhibitions in the UK, all underpinned by inspirational photography.

Embroidery is published six times a year in January, March, May, July, September and November. It is available on subscription and enjoyed by creative people with an interest in creative, innovative stitched work and textiles.

The Embroideress was a quarterly magazine published by Pearsall and Company and the Old Bleach Linen Company from 1922 until 1939. The Embroideress published articles by a new generation of embroidery teachers who were leading the way in terms of creativity in stitching. Illustrations were black and white, with some colour plates. The magazine contained current designs, reviews of books and current embroidery exhibits, information on embroidery from different countries, articles about historical textiles or collections, and different embroidery techniques.

Ultimo Numero:

Full of the joys of summer, our July/August issue comes with a very special opportunity: the chance to win an embroidery holiday. We’ve teamed up with Creative Experiences to offer one lucky winner a choice of three luxurious retreats, in either the UK or Madeira, where you’ll learn new skills from embroidery experts, socialise with like-minded travellers and see the local sights. The winner will be drawn at random and will need proof of purchase of the July/August issue.

Our cover image comes courtesy of Darren Ball whose nostalgic brand of art is based on skilful reinterpretations of images from his collection of vintage Stitchcraft magazines.

Previews that make interesting reading feature the Festival of Quilts where we meet a former NASA spacecraft-designer-turned-quilter; an intimate exhibition at the Willow Gallery, Oswestry; and the Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven at the Whitworth.
We also bring you the bold blooms of @kateinthenest, the ‘trashmenterie’ of Helena Doyle, the cute critters of Annie Montgomerie, the European sewn souvenirs of Maria Tuncyurek and news of Anne Kelly’s latest exhibition and her open call for postcards. We delve, too, into the remarkable world textiles of the Karun Thakar collection, on display at three National Trust properties.

There’s much more to enjoy, from news and reviews to books and what’s on. It’s a magazine full of inspiration which we hope will lead to a summer packed with creative possibilities.
