ArtReview is one of the world’s leading international contemporary art magazines. Founded in 1949, it is dedicated to expanding contemporary art’s audience and reach. Published nine times a year, the magazine features a mixture of criticism, reviews, previews, opinion, reportage and specially commissioned artworks, and offers one of the most established, in-depth and intimate portraits of international contemporary art in all its shapes and forms.

The ArtReview archive consists of all issues going back to 2006, when the title was relaunched in its present form. The title provides an invaluable resource for those interested in the current era of contemporary art; the ArtReview archive is an indispensable reference for all art students, art historians and other humanities researchers, as well as offering an independent and first-hand research tool for professionals working in galleries, museums and institutions.

Latest Issue:

In the September issue of ArtReview, Adeline Chia looks at the work of the Indonesian collective Taring Padi, who consider themselves activists first and artists second. Clive Chijioke Nwonka turns to the redevelopment of London’s Hackney Wick and considers the effects of enlisting cultural institutions in such endeavours. Alexandra Symons-Sutcliffe discusses Terminal Piece (1972), by Kate Millet, made in response to the highly publicised murder of an American teenage girl. Also in this issue, Martin Herbert observes that Jasper Johns’s paintings often hide more than they reveal; Nicole Kaack argues that Sophie Becker’s ventriloquism performances become a tool by which to question who’s really in charge; Zoë Hopkins addresses the rich history of black graphic scores to make the case that black musical culture has always also been a visual culture; and Emily McDermott asks the poet Ana María Caballero about what art is and what AI isn’t. Plus, reviews from around the world, including London, New York, Barcelona and Antananarivo, and reviews of books by Catherine Liu, Charlotte Higgins and Simon Reynolds. Included with this issue is a free 56-page supplement exploring the contemporary art scenes of South Korea.
