Australian Foreign Affairs is the country’s leading foreign affairs journal. In a world arguably less stable than at any time since World War II, it examines the most significant global issues affecting Australia.

Australian Foreign Affairs is produced by Schwartz Media. After more than forty years of publishing some of Australia’s most influential authors and journalists, Schwartz Media has a reputation for excellence.

The AFA journal is released three times a year and publishes some of Australia’s leading thinkers, including Paul Keating, Hugh White, Linda Jaivin, Allan Gyngell, Penny Wong, Margaret Simons, George Megalogenis, Michael Wesley, Kim Beazley, Linda Jakobson, Christos Tsiolkas and many more.

Latest Issue:

The twenty-sixth issue of Australian Foreign Affairs explores the decline of global free trade and the emergence of a new economic order in which nations view trade as a tool for gaining strategic advantage.

As Donald Trump’s tariffs reshape the international marketplace, “Who won?” looks at the unfolding era of weaponised trade and the ways in which Australia can respond, adapt and resist.

Essays include:
  • “Weapons of choice: Australia and the new economic order”, by Shiro Armstrong
  • “Staying open: How to counter Trump's great disruption”, by Melissa Conley Tyler
  • “Follow the money: Australia stuck in China's orbit”, by David Uren
  • “Buying power: An economic playbook for the era of Trump and Xi”, by Richard Holden
