Founded in 1992, Filmmaker is a publication by, for and about independent filmmakers. It covers the art, technology and business of filmmaking today, informed by the perspective of its co-founder and editor-in-chief, Scott Macaulay, a working producer, as well as contributors who include directors, DPs and top film writers and journalists.
Subscribers will receive online access to the quarterly magazine's archives going back to winter 2005. The extensive archives include in-depth interviews with leading filmmakers of the era from Quentin Tarantino to Kelly Reichardt to Barry Jenkins, along with articles chronicling the growth and transformation of independent film in real time.
Filmmaker Magazine's fall 2024 issue includes the annual 25 New Faces of Independent Film list, as well as interviews with Sean Baker (Anora), Aaron Schimberg (A Different Man), Azazel Jacobs (His Three Daughters), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) and Johan Grimonprez (Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat); Patricia Aufderheide on the history of Hoop Dreams at 30; and two pieces about editing, one on the editor's voice and another what an assistant editor does.
